Shangri La Country Club on Monkey Island at Grand Lake

The Shangri La Country Club construction continues right on schedule. Opening date is somewhere close to Memorial Weekend 2011. The exterior of the new clubhouse is almost complete. The curbing has been poured for the parking lot and rock is down and ready for pavement. The interior work is on schedule and will be ready on time.

The work on the driving range and the Gold course continues. You need to see all the machines at work. It is a real work of art what each machine does for the course. A waterfall is under construction, trees are being planted, and an iron fence is going up around the course. It is going to be first class the whole way.

Monkey Island real estate is booming with the new country club going in. A Chateau on the Gold course went under contract this week. A St. Andrews home went under contract last night. It is not far from golf course either. Grand Lake is going to be the destination place that is was in the 70′s again.

New Home Inventory

On Friday February 18, 2011 the Wallstreet Journal had an article that stated that the inventory of new homes is now 190,000 nationwide, the lowest since January, 1968. The article admitted that there is still an ample supply given the sales rate but points out that several regions of the country are getting low on the number of new homes for sale.

In the Grove, Oklahoma and Grand Lake real estate market we have not seen widespread foreclosures of homes. New home builders have however slowed down to near nothing on the building on new homes. We have had an oversupply of resale homes the past two years but we are gradually working this supply down. One of these days we are going to wake up and be short on homes to pick from. The area remains a favorite for retirees and second home buyers. For a February on the lake market we have been very busy with calls and internet activity. People coming to look at homes are also picking up. We feel like this spring will see a much more active real estate market than the past couple of years.

Interest rates are also ticking up a bit. If you have been thinking about buying a second home on Grand Lake or putting off buying that retirement home, I would start to move my plans up. Now is when the best selection will be found and the interest rates are still very favorable. Something to think about.

Shangri La Country Club on Monkey Island at Grand Lake Update

Winter weather slowed down construction on the clubhouse and golf course at the new Shangri La Country Club on Monkey Island at Grand Lake for a few days, but things are back a humming right along now. Dozers continue to work on golf course and now they are laying out the parking lot for the clubhouse. The roof shingles are on and the stone masons are back to finishing the last few feet of stone to the top of the building. Inside, plummers, electricians, insulation men, and other craftsmen are seen coming and going on a regular basis. Construction should still be on track for the Memorial Day Weekend opening.

If thinking about joining the club, I would not wait much longer as the no upfront fee days are numbered now. This is truly going to be a class act club. NE Oklahoma will have nothing in comparision to this golf club.

We still also have some good deals in homes around the golf course on Monkey Island. A lake and golf home in The Estates, The Chateaus, St Andrews, The Villas, Pt Marin, or Shangri Place would be a great place for your second home on the lake or a retirement home on the lake. These are all gated communities for your security and the yard work is done by the association to assure a pristine area everytime you visit without the hassle of you doing the work. Grove, OK on Beautiful Grand Lake

February, 2011 we just came thru two record setting snow storms and record low temperatures but in Oklahoma fashion today we are 70 degrees. The Grand Lake area normally gets 9″ snowfall per winter, about 2″ in December and another 7″ in January. Some years we will have a March blizzard that comes and goes fast. Once or twice in 20 years we get a dose of winter like this year.

I love four seasons and we have four pretty seasons. While I hate snow, I must this record snow while piled high and cold outside, looked as pretty as a picture looking out our picture windows toward the lake while enjoying the warmeth of our furnace.

What I like about now, is you can tell with longer days that Spring is not too many weeks away and we will again be enjoying my favorite time of year with dogwoods and redbuds in bloom. People will be fishing, boating, and sea-dooing again and the sail boats will be out.

If you are thinking about a retirement home, Grove, OK on the shores of beautiful Grand Lake is a wonderful place to call home. We have quality health care with our one year old Integris Grove Hospital, friendly churches and civic clubs, and good shopping and dining. People welcome newcomers with open arms. Dream About Grand Lake During Bad Winter Weather

The weather has been anything but nice in most sections of the country in January and early February, 2011. The Grand Lake area in NE Oklahoma normally has about 9″ of snow during the winter, a couple inches in December and about 7 inches in January, February or March. This year we have had maybe 15 inches and it seems like a lot for us. Anyway everyone I know of is tired of winter and ready to think spring and summer lake fun. I would suggest that now is a great time to search the web and think Grand Lake. We have noticed our web activity on our sites has picked up quite abit.

You can also search at our www.grandlakeokhomes.com web site and again see our listings and the entire Grand Lake MLS. For best selection of waterfront or golf course homes I would start looking and thinking now. When the weather is better, which it will be soon you will have you plan of attack ready to go. Grove, OK Home & Garden Show Feb. 11, 12, 13, 2011

The Grove, OK home and garden show at the civic center on main street in Grove begins Friday February 11th 2-7 pm, Saturday February 12 from 10 to 6, and Sunday February 13 from 11 to 3. RE/MAX Grand Lake including the Grand Lake Team will have a booth at the show. You will also find many local and out of town vendors with all kinds of products for your home. It is a great annual event.

This year we think everyone will be extra eager to get and enjoy the forecasted better weather after two weeks of hard for Oklahoma winter weather. Come on to the civic center and join in the fun.

Is This The Year For You To Buy Grand Lake Real Estate

Here it is January, 2011 and it is cold across much of the United States. However we are seeing a warming of the inquiry into real estate in the Grand Lake market. Our internet searches and pages viewed have been up all month as people sit at home in the cold wishing for warm weather to enjoy the lake. Our real estate values have not taken the big hit much of the U.S. did. Waterfront homes have been pretty much flat the past three years, however we did see a minor uptick in prices for 2010. Residential homes bought at the very peak of the market in 2007 have seen a drop in price of about 10% average but have also seemed to level out in price.

There are bargains to be had from people needing to sell this winter for various reason such as loss of a job, death in the family, or other family change. We will see these bargains become fewer and fewer as we get in the early March beginning of the 2011 Spring Selling Season. We have not seen widespread foreclosures like other areas of the country and only a few distressed sales. Interest rates are low and prices are stable with what we believe is an upward trend into the next few years. This might just be the time to invest in an investment that could appreciate in value like stocks but we are certain it will appreciate in family and friends values as you make memories on Grand Lake. Grand Lake’s Monkey Island Shangri La Update

The Shangri La Country Club on Monkey Island at Grand Lake continues to work at a fast pace in the redevelopment of the historic country club. Owner, Eddie Gibbs has pulled out all stops and is fast transforming the Shangri La into a new glorious phase. The dry fall and winter we are having have not been good for wheat farmers but for working on a golf course it has been terrific. The pictures above were taken on December 30, 2011 and each picture is a different machine working.

It is such a positive feeling to see so much work going on in what is considered by many to be trying times. Confidence means alot to people’s actions and I for one believe that is an area many in our country have lost. Yes, we have many people out of work and hurting but the way to get the economy rolling is to invest and spend prudently and then jobs and a better economy will come for all.
