Buying a Lake Home or Second Home

Buying a home is a big investment for most folks. Taking the plunge for a second home on the lake or golf course is another big ticket investment that should not be taken lightly.

Americans enjoy their homes and are proud of "their castle" no matter the size or cost. We are affluant enough that a good many Americans now own not just one but two or sometimes three homes. A lake home or home on the golf course is a wonderful choice for a second home or retirement home. Grand Lake in Northeast Oklahoma is a great choice for the retirement home, lake home, or golf course with lake home. On Grand Lake we have waterfront homes priced from $175,000 on up. In general you can buy a nice waterfront home from $350,000-$700,000 with great water, wonderful views, family and friends styled home for entertaining or just enjoying for a couple or family. Homes in or close to Grove on the water sell the highest ever thing else equal but if you don’t mind 15 minutes to 25 minutes to the middle of nowhere for your lake home you can get alot of home for the money.

Picking out a home requires doing some homework. First of all it is much easier to make the right choice with the help of a good realtor who knows his or her market,  one who will take the time to get to know their client and listen to their needs and desires, who will be honest, and tell the good and bad of all the potential homes talked about. Your realtor can keep you from making a horrible choice if you will listen and then make an informed decision on the home that best fits your needs. There will not be a perfect home that has all the traits you want but you can find a home that you will love that does most everthing you want and expect.

This home you purchase may be the home for the rest of your life and we hope it will be, but many times our lives change for one reason or another and we need to sell. For this reason, buy a home you like and fits your needs but do not buy a home that no one else would want or a very limited market for it. Hopefully you will have years and years of enjoyment out of your home but if not with proper planning your home will sell in all markets.

Now is a good time to buy homes. The market the past few years has been in many areas strickly a seller’s market but today the red hot areas are having a buyer’s market. On Grand Lake we were never red hot and now we are not as cold as a fish. You can find a better selection of homes in our area now than many times of the past few years but still not an oversupply. Waterfront homes are for sure not overbuilt or too many for sale.

If your retirement home needs to be priced at $150,000 to $300,000 we have a great selection of different locations and styles and floor plans to choose from. Not an oversupply but a nice selection. You will not be pressured to make a quick buy before the next buyer takes the home. You can take dead aim, find what you want, let the realtor show you comp prices for like homes, get it inspected by a professional, and make a great buy in your budget.
