New Monkey Island on Grand Lake Mexican Diner
Tuesday, September 4th, 2012Got the note below from Larry and Marilyn who serve with the Monkey Island Association who own and manage the strip center by the airport on Monkey Island at Grand Lake announcing a new Mexican eating establishment in the former Anna’s location by airport. We appreciate the hard work the association does to promote Monkey Island and the new community center in the strip mall.
Hi, The Island’s new Las Palmeras Mexican Grill opened at 11:00am today! It’s where Anna’s used to be; their hours are 11am to 9pm. (I think they plan to be open everyday until things slow down.) The food, menu, and decor are wonderful! We’ve eaten several times at their Southwest City location (Hwy 43 & 90 Intersection to Noel). They have filed for a liquor license but it may not be in place yet.
Owners Veronica & Julio, manager Caesar, and staff are really a nice family. Those of us active in the Auxiliary and Island Community Center are thrilled to have them as lessees and new Island friends. Hope you’ve had a fun Labor Day weekend and here’s to another terrific addition to our little corner of Grand Lake! See you there.

Add to the above note, I talked to a gate security chief at the Chateaus who has eaten at the new location above. He reported both he and his wife got excellent meals and reasonable prices. Nice to have another selection on Monkey Island.
