Tulsa Boat, Sport, and Travel Show and Grand Lake Real EstateThursday, January 31st, 2008
For over fifty years the Tulsa Downtown Lions Club has sponsored the Tulsa Boat, Sport, and Travel Show at the formerly known IPE Building, but now known as the Quick Trip Center at the Tulsa County Fairgrounds in Tulsa, OK. This boat show has long been one of the top ten in the nation and is known as the starting signal of the new "lake season". All the boat dealers have very nice displays of the new boat lines. It is a great place to get a feel of the "air" for the soon to be here spring. Yes, it is still cold, but what a great time to dream of spring and summer and the lake. Of course the lake I like to see people dream of is Grand Lake located just a little over an hour’s drive from Tulsa.
Grand Lake and boating go hand in hand. It is such a pretty lake with varying scenry and great water to fish, swim, wake-board, or ski on. Home ownership on lakes is very popular for retirement or second homes and such is Grand Lake and Grove, OK, the largest town on the lake.
Realtors like to ask the boat dealers at the Boat Show how sales are. Many of us feel if the boats are selling then second homes or lake homes will also start selling when weather warms somewhat.
The show just started Monday night and I was there Wednesday night. It runs through Sunday afternoon. I visited with Jeff Thacher of Marine Max about the show. He reported already having sales on the books and the mood of the crowd was very good. He offers excellent financing on the new boats but reports a large percentage of the sales are cash. He is very upbeat for the prospects of good sales both at the show and for the upcoming season. Other dealers were all smiles as we looked at their wares also.
You can read gloom and doom and it is a serious time in our economy but if your own financial house is in order now is a great time to buy boats and lake homes. Interest rates are back extremely low, about 5.5% for a 30 year fixed real estate loan or around 5.2% for a 15 year fixed rate. The Oklahoma economy is good, fore closures on real estate are below the previous year, and prices did not over inflate. Thus you can buy in a solid market with low interest rates and have a good selection of homes still priced at winter prices.
As the weather warms up in the next few weeks, prices generally warm up also seasonally. You can get a great deal now with great rates for finance. What more can you ask for?
